Action Against Hunger (ACF) is a leading humanitarian agency working to combat hunger, malnutrition, and its determinants in over 45 countries worldwide. 12 years into the Syrian crisis, Jordan remains host to 1.36 million Syrian refugees (83% of whom live among host communities), in addition to over 90,000 refugees largely from Iraq, Yemen, Somalia, and Sudan.

Working in Jordan since 2013, ACF has focused its response on WASH, Food Security, and Livelihoods, and MHPSS programming for refugees and vulnerable Jordanians, both in camps and host communities. ACF’s 2020-25 country strategy aims to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable people to socio-economic and environmental challenges in Jordan with an emphasis on rural and peri-urban women and youth. As of 2023, Action Against Hunger has operations across Amman, Irbid, Mafraq, Zarqa, and Madaba with over 70 staff. 

Based in Irbid, ACF’s Food Security and Livelihood Officer is responsible for support the technical work of the Project including training preparation, co-facilitating training, technical support, and monitoring of the project activities. He/she is reporting directly to the FSL Program Manager and will focus on both Business Development and Post-Harvest. The role will directly contribute to the “Grow Economy” project, aimed at promoting sustainable, inclusive, and decent economic opportunities for Syrian refugees and vulnerable Jordanians in the agricultural sector in Irbid Governorate.

Responsibilities:

1) Ensure Business Development and Post-harvest initiatives of Grow Economy Project:

  • Support in planning, supervising, monitoring and reporting the implementation of the various projects’ activities using Action against Hunger tools.
  • Collaborating with the FSL Senior Officers in preparing and adjusting the training materials tailored to enhance participants’ understanding of critical concepts.
  • Co-facilitating Business Development and Post-Harvest training sessions in collaboration with FSL-Senior Officers in preparing training, ensuring the effective delivery of content and fostering active participation among beneficiaries.
  • Provide ongoing technical assistance to project beneficiaries. This involves guiding them through the development of market-based business plans, facilitating access to micro-business grants, assisting in the utilization of e-commerce platforms to expand their business reach, adapting post-harvest practices.
  • Work closely with the FSL Senior Officers to track the progress of project activities, collect relevant data, and support the preparation of comprehensive reports highlighting key achievements and areas for improvement.
  • Prepares action plans, and regularly follows up activities.
  • Support in monitoring the project needs and procurements, reporting back to the Program Manager, and ensuring logistics and supplies to support project activities.
  • Lead the archiving project documents according to the Action Against Hunger format in collaboration alongside with project assistants.
  • Supervise field assessments (e.g. surveys, etc.) in conjunction with the MEAL Department
  • Lead the implementation in the working sites of the safety measures/rules for both Action Against Hunger teams and the populations/public.
  • Implements transparency and accountability measures for the project beneficiaries, by including them throughout the project cycle.
  • Ensure that databases and data analysis as well as activity indicators are followed up and harmonized.
  • Carry out regular field visits to monitor and follow up on the implementation of project activities, identify and anticipate problems and constraints, and support in proposing solutions and possible improvements.
  • Conduct the process of the beneficiary selection and eligibility process adhering to the criteria established by Action Against Hunger.
  • Work closely with the FSL assistants, and numerators in compiling a comprehensive and accurate beneficiaries list.
  • Liaise with the enumerators, establishing, updating, and archiving the beneficiaries’ data list.
  • Participate in the Project learning Cycles activities with the Project team to maintain coordination, collaboration, and sharing knowledge for the benefit of the project objectives.

2) Ensure Action Against Hunger local representation, and ensure internal and external coordination within the intervention area

  • If necessary to be involved in Liaise with project partners and community stakeholders to ensure alignment of project activities with local needs and priorities.
  • Support the efficient coordination between the project staff.
  • If necessary to represent Action Against Hunger in external meetings or events as delegated by the line manager.
  • Participate in internal and external coordination meetings (ensure minutes of meetings when necessary);

3) Ensure adherence to Action against Hunger gender requirements

  • Commit and comply with the organization gender, age and diversity principles & policies (working with people, communication)
  • Support on the implementation and the promotion of gender, age and diversity principles through daily activities and or through the management of their teams (Managing performance & development)
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive information at all times.
  • Perform other job-related tasks as requested by the supervisor.
