Programme Description:
Data science is rapidly establishing itself as a vital discipline with significant implications for economic growth and development. Emerging African scientists would be able to perform cutting-edge data science research and work toward a PhD degree within a high-quality training programme in Africa, in collaboration with international institutions, through AIMS’ doctoral training programme.
Thecurriculum would concentrate on the theoretical foundations of data science as well as data science implementations to boost Africans’ everyday lives. It is based on the belief that modern data science methods necessitate a blend of skills from the fields of mathematics, statistics, computer science, and applied sciences.
In this prestigious new doctoral programme, AIMS to give up to seven fully funded PhD vacancies. Students will be located in Rwanda, at AIMS Rwanda, or at any of the other AIMS centres, in collaboration with universities and research institutions across Africa and the world. The program’s goal is to develop potential change-makers who will affect academia, business, education, and government.
Candidates will choose from a list of proposed research subjects, and AIMS can help them put together a supervision team around them. Candidates may also propose their own research subjects, as well as a suggested supervision team. Selected students will begin in October or November of 2021.
